Outstanding conclusion to a trilogy

Outstanding conclusion to Mr. Dalzelle's trilogy. Tight pacing moved the story along nicely. Our intrepid (but rebellious) captain Jackson Wolfe once again finds himself in harms way and has to make some tough decisions to fight a war with the Phage that is seemingly impossible to win. I really enjoyed this trilogy and read through this final book in one setting. I read a lot of science fiction so come across quite a few duds. This book (and trilogy in general) is not one of them. Start with the first book, though otherwise you will be totally lost.

Good ending to the trilogy

This was a good-but-not-great ending to the trilogy. It seemed like that author was wanting something other than the adrenalin soaked stories told in the first 2 books. He turned down the adrenalin to add more about the relationships between the characters as well as a lot more deciphering the available clues to learn about the phage.
This worked, but not completely. You could tell the author got outside his comfort zone while trying to delve into the background of who the phage really are and why they are mindlessly destroying the universe. This part of the story didn't hold together nearly as well as the action scenes. In the end he had to rely on a Deus ex machina to resolve the phage problem.
But I don't want to seem too down on the book. It was a really good book that the author tried to get outside of his space opera mindset to work an ending. That's not a bad thing, in fact it's a very good thing. But the story holes tend to attract attention when set as the capstone of the action trilogy.

Excellent Series

As I read this book, heck the whole series, I couldn't get over how on the edge of my seat I was while reading through the intense "naval" combat scenes. The relative speeds across immense distances taking hours if not days to cover for single moments of weapons fire. And the characters involved all fleshed out individually with personalities and roles that distinguished them as memorable. A very good series indeed.
