Fun and Informative for the Curious

This little book - in size, not pages or content - did for me exactly what I hope it would do: introduce me to the types of commercial vessels that ply the Great Lakes and help me figure out the best places to spot them.
I arrived in Cleveland as a young man on the very night that the Edmund Fitzgerald sank on Lake Superior several hundred miles away. Despite the distance, the rain in Cleveland was torrential. In places water was up to the wheel hubs of my U-Haul. The next morning, or perhaps two days later, the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper published a map of the lakes showing sites of ship wrecks - I was astounded at how many of them there were.
Now that I'm approaching retirement age I'm planning some excursions; one around the lakes. Everything I need is here for this part of the trip: flags, vessel profiles, likely watching spots, where certain ships are usually found, and brief histories of the major types. Lots of illustrations (in color) and maps. A fun read
Yes, I received a free copy - but only because I won it in a contest and only because I wanted it enough to enter the contest. You can be damn sure I wouldn't praise Ship Watching on the Great Lakes if not deserved.
